I found this quote in an Instagram post with several others by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It seemed appropriate for the political climate in the United States (where I am) right now. Given the executive orders that our 47th president has stated he is signing into law today, it is more important than ever that we focus on building community around us. There has been a lot of talk online about creating echo chambers on both the right and left. However, for some of us, it’s not just about being around people who agree with us, but about safety in numbers.
I’m sorry I’m a bit late with my Astro Insights for this week, but let’s talk about it. The biggest thing that is happening this week is the Pluto cazimi. Cazimi means “in the heart of the sun,” (Chani Nicholas). This is what astrologers call a planet’s conjunction with the Sun. Pluto is a generational planet that takes 248 years to orbit the sun. (It should be noted that the United States celebrated its 248th “birthday” on July 4, 2024.) The Sun will be conjunct Pluto once a year, but this is the first Pluto cazimi since Pluto entered Aquarius. The cazimi will be exact early on Tuesday, January 21.

My advice for the Pluto cazimi is to look at your chart's Aquarius house. Do you have any planets there? Have you noticed any endings or beginnings there? For example, my Midheaven is in my 9th house of Aquarius at 24 degrees. It will be years before Pluto is conjunct my Midheaven, but all that matters, for now, is that it’s in my 9th house of travel, education/learning, religion/spirituality, and publishing. My astrology teacher told me last year that I am at the start of a 20-30 year career. She based this off of my Lot of Spirit/zodiacal releasing, but it does not escape my attention that I recently had to quit a job due to transportation issues right before I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my BA in Creative Writing and English.
I plan to spend this week creating a writing schedule. I will be seeking out publishing opportunities this year, whether that means writing a book or having short works published in various online or physical publications, such as magazines or journals. I am also writing this Substack, of course, and hope to grow my following here. Writing will be a huge part of my future career. Tomorrow, I may pull some tarot, journal, look at my transit chart, and find other ways to sit with this important Pluto cazimi in Aquarius. Look at your chart to see what themes you should be focusing on tomorrow.

On Thursday, January 23, Mercury, the planet of communication, will be opposite Mars retrograde in Cancer. Remember that Mars, the planet of action, does not like to be in Cancer. Look to your Cancer and Capricorn houses to see what themes will be emerging in your communication and action this week. For me, it is my 2nd (Cancer) and 8th (Capricorn) houses, so a lot of discussions (possibly even some arguments) around the topic of money, taxes, income, etc. Of course, these topics have become very charged for me since leaving my job in December. I am still trying to figure out the best way to bring in consistent income. This Mercury-Mars opposition is a good time for me to focus on creating a plan of action.
On Saturday, January 25, Venus in Pisces will be trine Mars. This will give us a moment of reprieve from the tense energy many of us have been feeling during this Mars retrograde. Venus is exalted in Pisces, which means it is very happy there. This harmonious energy may feel sweet and nurturing. Take a moment to do something that makes you happy. Spend time with loved ones. Treat yourself. Enjoy the day!

We start Monday with the Moon in Libra. Tuesday, January 21, it moves into moody Scorpio. Thursday, January 23, the Moon moves into Sagittarius. We end this week on Sunday, January 26 with the Moon moving into Capricorn. As always, check your chart to see where the Moon will be transiting for you.
